In keeping with the observance of the National Disaster Resilience Month last July, DATEM, in partnership with the Mandaluyong City government, initiated the donation of 1,500 Emergency Go Bags to day care students. These survival lifeline kits will be distributed to at least 60 day care centers within Mandaluyong.
Business Development Management Division Head Arch. Lesley E. Villanueva and Operations Manager Engr. Frizan B. Bartolome were present during the ceremonial turnover, which took place at the city hall. This effort forms part of Mandaluyong’s socio-civic initiatives to mark the birthday celebration of Mayor Carmencita “Menchie” Abalos.
Survival essentials
Each water-proof Go Bag contains survival essentials for the first few hours after a calamity. Contents include: 330 ml bottled water, energy bar, whistle, flashlight, bright-colored bandanna, and hard hat.
It also contains a first-aid kid, comprised of adhesive strips, gauze bandage, medical tape, isopropyl alcohol, and povidone-iodine.
The Big One
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Philvolcs) has been urging the public to prepare for the Big One when it hits Metro Manila.
According to the agency, the West Valley Fault is ripe to cause a destructive 7.2 magnitude quake, where loss of life and property, and damage to infrastructure, will result to staggering fatalities and economic loss.
Mandaluyong is among the cities expected to feel the strongest tremors due to its proximity to the fault line.
Shared value
The donation of Go Bags is aligned with the company’s core value of Malasakit, On its 35th year, DATEM strengthens its reputation as a good corporate citizen, and reinforces its commitment to champion the creation of shared value in the communities to which it belongs.
