Amid the destruction the Taal eruption, DATEM prompted philanthropic response through Project Taal, an outreach activity that extended help to some 500 families in Batangas.
Headed by Business Development Management Division Head Arch. Lesley E. Villanueva, DATEM volunteers headed to San Luis, Batangas, to provide relief operations and conduct psycho-social activities for the affected families. The team visited the evacuation centers in San Luis Academy, Durungao, and San Antonio.
Each of the families received storage boxes containing essential needs and hygiene necessities, such as a sleeping mat, blanket, bath and detergent soap, sanitary napkins, shampoo, underwears, and canned goods.
Go Bags containing disaster survival essentials were also given. These contain a whistle, flashlight, adhesive strips, gauze bandage, medical tape, isopropyl alcohol, and povidone-iodine.
Over-the-counter medicines and nebulizers were endorsed to the facilitators of the evacuation centers to address medical needs.
Meanwhile, a series of fun games for the kids provided a welcome departure from an atmosphere of gloom and uncertainty.
Stewardship
Project Taal was organized under #DATEMalasakit, the company’s umbrella program for all its socio-civic and corporate social responsibility initiatives. More than just a core value, malasakit has grown to become part of the company’s corporate culture, mobilizing the Management and its employees to exercise a deep sense of stewardship of the nation, its people, and the environment.
